Anonymous, Hospital Employee, Syracuse, NY

I work at a hospital in Syracuse, NY.  We had to prepare for the Surge to come for the COVID virus.  So far the surge has never come.  Our hospital which is owned by Trinity Health Care, has a census so low that we are now being asked to either take furlough or our hours are being decreased.  I actually work on a COVID unit as a secretary.  The patients we are seeing have many co-morbidities.  I was scared to work there at first. I no longer am.  I am seeing the patients recuperating.

My husband owns commercial real Estate.  He is very worried on how he is going to pay the banks on his mortgage and property taxes because many of his tenants are no longer to pay their rents or going out of business.  We are seeing many young people who are suffering from depression because they no longer have jobs or can not even graduate from college or high school.  There are going to be more people dying from the effects of this lockdown.  Whether it is through depression/ suicide/ hunger/ child abuse/loneliness. If people are not working they are not paying taxes or contributing to society. This is very scary to me.
